" DON'T ONLY PRACTICE YOUR ART,
BUT FORCE YOUR WAY INTO ITS SECRETS,
FOR IT AND KNOWLEDGE CAN
RAISE MEN TO THE DIVINE "

This Website is a developing showcase for photographs of Birds, Mammals and Landscapes taken by Mike Jones.

The majority of the images were taken on the West coast of Scotland. My favourite place on Earth is the Isle of Mull and this provides the inspiration for most of my work.

Images are added all the time and are first shown under the gallery "LATEST PHOTOS". In time the photographs are moved to a Species or Landscape folder where they join an expanding image libary.

Please take time to browse the site and enjoy the photo galleries, feel free to sign the Guestbook or leave a comment and should you wish to purchase an image please use the contact page and we will contact you ASAP.

Thankyou for visiting

" OTTERS ", ISLE OF MULL, JUNE 2011
(Contains 16 photos)
Some of the images here have taken 2 1/2 years to get. After years of tracking otters in bad light with bruised knees and elbows, battered camera gear and 5am starts at last it came together. Otters are hard to photograph because they are shy, they can smell you from miles away and can dissapear in a second. When the light is right (6am sunrise) and an otter comes ashore just yards away it makes up for hours of frustration.
KINGFISHER no 2 "KINGFISHERS"
(Contains 22 photos)
The Kingfisher touches the lives of everyone who sees them.

A flash of cobalt blue as they fly low and fast down a stretch of water they are rarely seen up close and it is a privilege for anyone to spend time and capture images of one of the world's most beautiful birds.

GREY SEAL (FEMALE) " GREY SEALS AND PUPS"
(Contains 34 photos)
The Grey seal is Britain's largest carniverous mammal. When at sea, grey seals hunt alone; it is only on land that they congregate, often in their thousands. The seal's large eyes enable it to see well in dark murky waters.

The life-span for grey seals is 26-38 years. Grey seals breed fron September to December around British shores. The female gives birth to a single pup on a shore crowded with hundreds of other seals. At birth the the baby is covered with a thick , creamy white coat, but this is replaced by a greyish jueveile coat after about 3 weeks.

The pup grows quickly on its mothers milk, and she abandons her offspring after 3 weeks ready to mate again. The pups left on the beach, driven by hunger, soon take to the sea to find their first solid food.

WAXWINGS (ww 11) "GOT EM" WAXWINGS AT LAST
(Contains 11 photos)
When we left the Isle of Mull last October Waxwings arrived from Scandinavia/Eastern Europe the day after we left. When we scoured the Lake district trying to find them they were always there the day before and so the picture carried on in the North West until eventually I gave up. It is pretty ironic therefore that they eventually turned up in a car park 7 miles from my house!
